Say What?!?

I think I have told you all that I have started my mastery of the English language. As I continue to hone my skills, I am just beginning to learn the Art of Conversation. I will admit, I have struggled with it. Tonight, however, I had a breakthrough. I have recapped a conversation with my mommy so that you too can experience what I did.

Emerson: Mommy! Mommy!
Mommy: What, Emerson?
Emerson: Mommy! Mommy!
Mommy: What, Emerson?
Emerson: Mommy! Mommy!
Mommy: You know, Emerson, when you call someone's name and they answer - you are supposed to tell them something, not just say their name again.
Emerson: What?*

Mommy laughed when I said this, so I laughed too as I gathered that was what I was supposed to do.

*It should be noted that this is my first usage of 'what' without being prompted. Yes, I am pretty pleased with myself too.
