Fit to Be Be Tied, I Mean, Tubed
Today was a scary day for mommy and daddy. Daddy came to school to do my feeding and after inserting my tubie, realized none of the milk was going in. Turns out the little stopper had broken off (inside my tummy tube) and was impeding the flow of any fluids. My tube was broken.
Daddy called mommy who was tied up in meetings all day. Daddy called Gamma who tried to find someone at mommy's work who could track down mommy. Gamma finally found mommy, who was conducting an interview. Mommy called daddy who was in the process of taking me to a check up with my Pediatrician. Daddy had tried to call my tummy surgeon, but the office was less than helpful. Daddy told mommy that he would see if my pediatrician could make any headway and asked if mommy would try the surgeon's office again. Sound confusing? It was. I didn't realize this was such a big deal; but it is. It's 112 degrees here and my only safe way for hydration is through this tube.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Mommy got direction from the surgeon's office to go to the Children's Hospital Emergency Room. Mommy called Daddy and off we all were to meet at the ER. Mommy and daddy were nervous that I would need surgery to fix my tube. Turns out, after an examination and a close look by resident Dr. Brown, they determined the size of my tube and were able to replace it. No surgery. No drugs. No nuthin', except:
1 Doctor
1 Resident
1 Nurse
1 Daddy (my daddy)...
...to hold me while the doctors swooped in and swooped out with my new tube. It took about 20 seconds, literally. Mommy waited in the hall because it can be a bit distressing. She told me later that she expected to hear me crying and screaming, but I said, "Nah, I am a brave boy." Okay, so I didn't really say that, but I thought it and acted it, so I was. We checked into the ER at 5:15 and were discharged at 7, good as new.
Turns out I need more tubes though. Dr. P, my pediatrician discovered that both of my ear tubes have come out and I still have fluid in them.
Go figure.
